The Karambit is a multipurpose knife that has its origins in the Malay archipelago and was documented for the first time in the 11th century with the ring on the knob. The crescent-shaped blade is still used today on fishing knives, also known as gardening sickles. The ring on the knob allows "freehand" work with the knife without having to position the knife downwards and reduces the risk of loss, eg. in maritime environments. Today it is more likely that the pommel ring is used for athletic purposes, e.g. in various martial arts of the Philippines, like Pencak Silat or Philipino Kali, allowing the knife to rotate around the little finger. Ernest Emerson paved the way for the rebirth of this type of knife. It also gave rise to the so-called Emerson Wave patent, a small hook on the back that allows the blade to be unfolded while the knife is pulled out of the pocket. Training knife, suitable for those who want to start getting comfortable with this type of knife and for those who want to improve themselves in training.
